Shaping Soulmate: My Soulmate Professor Is Taken

Hannah spends the summer before her final year of art school in a relationship with a man she expects never to see again. When classes resume, he is standing at the front of her studio as her new professor. She has one year left before graduation and now has to sit in his class and call him by his title. They keep seeing each other outside school hours, meeting in places where students and faculty are unlikely to cross paths. He grades her work alongside everyone else's, and she has to act as if nothing between them changed. Other people in the department start to notice inconsistencies, small things: he lingers near her easel longer than the syllabus requires, she is absent from group critiques he happens to also miss. Someone in the program has information about the two of them and uses it, first as leverage, then as a threat to both their positions. Hannah has to weigh whether finishing her degree under his supervision is worth the exposure. He has his own history at the school that predates her, tied to decisions made before she ever enrolled, and those decisions start to surface as the relationship becomes harder to hide. They keep meeting anyway, working around review committees and studio hours, trying to keep the relationship contained to the hours when no one else is watching. As the semester goes on, the risk to his position and her degree keeps growing at the same rate as their attachment to each other.
