Three years ago Zoe Walker needed money for her father and became Shane Reed's mistress to get it. Shane's family arranged a marriage for him and he accepted it, and Zoe was set aside without much said. His intended wife, Yara Aston, found out Zoe existed and arranged a kidnapping and a fire meant to kill Zoe and her father both. Zoe was pulled out of it by another wealthy heir who had reason to be there. She has spent the years since rebuilding, and she comes back with a name people in society want attached to their events. Shane tries to get her back and she uses his interest against him. Yara moves on her a second time, and in turning that attempt around Zoe brings out what actually happened three years ago, including the pressure Shane was under and what he swallowed rather than explain.
