Athena's mother left her an instruction before she died: keep what you are hidden, and marry an Alpha. Athena did both, and she lost the pack and her mate anyway. A year went by before her powers came back. By then Victor had Selene with him, a general, and the two of them meant to take Athena's pack. Athena asked Victor for a divorce. Cassian, the Alpha King, backed her, and she started taking ground back in front of the others. Selene's account of herself did not hold up. She had been dealing with vampires, and there was older business between her and Athena's family that she had spent years covering over. The wedding Victor and Selene had arranged came apart while that was coming out.
