Her Rise To Fame

Hailey Gem is a singer at the top of the charts. Jenny Lynn is an actress whose career is finished. She envies the life Hailey has, and she swaps her own newborn for Hailey's daughter. The swapped girl grows up as Neena Lynn. Jenny raises Neena and mistreats her. She keeps Neena out of music schooling and works at holding down the talent that shows up anyway. Whenever Neena writes something, Jenny takes the sheet music and passes it to Wanda Sue, her own daughter by blood, and Wanda Sue makes a name in the entertainment industry out of it. Neena's grandmother needs treatment and it has to be paid for, so Neena enters a televised singing contest. Hailey Gem sits on the judging panel and does not know which girl is hers. She has put her name and her resources behind Wanda Sue, and the two of them work to shut Neena down round after round. Wanda Sue uses that protection to go further, running schemes against her. A musician who grew up alongside Wanda Sue works out that the songs are stolen and starts backing Neena instead. Hailey finds out around the same time that Wanda Sue is not her daughter by blood, and she starts looking at Neena more closely.
