When Love Is Unequal

Before my sister was born, my parents treated me like a princess. They bought a big house for me, went out in the rain to get me cake, and filled albums with pictures of me before I was five. My sister came along. My parents told me their love for me would stay the same and that I was getting a playmate, which was not true. One day I turned the air conditioner down by one degree to keep her cool. My mother slapped me and shut me in the refrigerator and told me to stay in there until I had learned my lesson. They forgot about the lock. I was five years old and could not get out, and with their attention on my sister they did not remember I was in there. A neighbor broke the door down and got me out. My parents believed I had died, and they prayed in front of my photograph every day. When I turned up alive in front of them, they cried and begged me to forgive them. They have been trying to make it up to me ever since, and I have decided not to forgive them.
