The Bride They Never Expected

Rachel White runs a group worth billions and is about to marry Cody Gill. Cody's career matters to him and he does not want to be known as the man who married up, so Rachel keeps quiet about what she does. When his mother Lola George flies in, Rachel drives to the airport herself, dressed plainly, to collect her. Lola judges people by what they are wearing. Waiting at arrivals is Lydia Harris, done up expensively, who is Cody's mistress and has come to make an impression. Lola takes Lydia for the CEO her son is marrying and greets her accordingly. Rachel, standing there in ordinary clothes, gets read as the mistress, and Lola says so out loud and keeps saying it. Lydia is happy to let the mistake stand and plays the part all the way to the car. Rachel does not correct anyone. She carries the luggage, takes the insults, and watches how Cody behaves once his mother is in the room.
