Touch My Daughter, Then Die

Lillian Hastings is Evelyn Hastings' only child and the one person Evelyn is soft about. To everyone else Evelyn is the head of the Hastings family, the woman whose word settles a matter and whom people in the city have learned to be careful around. Lillian has a rare illness. Three years ago Evelyn left the country to have a drug for it developed, and three years later she came back with it finished. While she was away her husband had taken up with the nanny and moved her into the house, their daughter was going about as the young lady of the family, and between them they had taken over the Hastings family. Lillian had been put to work as a servant in her own house, with her own fiance joining in on it, and the daily handling had broken her mind. Evelyn means to settle the accounts at the next banquet.
