Martina Collins was a pianist. She lived quietly and took students, and one of them was Sophia Axton. Through Sophia she was pulled into the dispute between the Axton family and the Conti family. Simon Conti, head of a Mafia family, met Martina by chance. Her playing reached something in him that had been buried a long time, and he was drawn to her from that meeting on. The two of them crossed paths again while his feud with the Axtons was at its worst. Simon forced Martina into a marriage she had not agreed to. Martina did not trust him.
