The Mountain Goddness

Two sisters live in Fu Le village. One of them is chosen as the mountain bride, the offering the village sends up to the mountain god, and then she is gone. The younger sister, who has an illness that comes on in spring, volunteers to be taken next so she can find out what happened to her. She goes up the mountain and into the shrine as the bride. The mountain god is a man locked in a cave, and he tries to use her to get himself out. The ritual is the cover for something the village elder is running with Hu Kangshan and Liu Ruyan, in which women taken from the village are sold on. Superstition is what keeps the supply coming. She presses them for where her sister was taken. An inspector eventually comes in to investigate and promises to recover the women.
