The Raven's Bride

A Russian noblewoman arrives in London with nothing, having survived the slaughter of her family, and tells nobody in her new city what happened or who she used to be. She marries a watchmaker, a quiet man whose days are spent over small mechanisms, and the marriage is calm in a way her old life never was. What breaks it open is a tattoo of a raven. Once she starts pulling at what that mark means, the story she has been keeping to herself stops being safely in the past, and things she assumed she understood about her husband turn out to be connected to the people who killed her family. Then he disappears. She sells and packs and follows the trail out of England, across an ocean and then further, chasing secondhand accounts of a man matching his description. It ends in Hong Kong, in a small shop full of clocks, where the man behind the counter is her husband and has no memory of her at all.
