My Beggar Husband Is the King

Eliza Harrow and her half-sister Rosamund are to pick husbands by throwing embroidered balls; the man who catches a ball marries the girl who threw it. Gordon Harrow and Maeve mean for Rosamund's ball to go to Everett Cole, a scholar newly given his post, but Eliza's ball reaches him first. Rosamund's lands in the hands of Conrad Vale, a beggar with his young son Felix at his side. The family swap the two brides in secret and send Eliza to the beggar instead. Conrad is in fact the emperor, out of the palace in disguise. He and Felix are looking for the woman who saved his life six years ago, who is also the boy's mother, and that woman is Eliza.
