Wendy Song was born into the Song family. Her cousin Annie Qin was taken in and raised in the same house. In Wendy's first life Annie won her parents' affection away from her and took her place as the first love of Sean Shi, who was known as the crown prince of the capital. When Sean's mother was left in a vegetative state, Annie accused Wendy of causing it, and Sean had Wendy sent to prison. The Song family sided with the girl they had taken in and nobody spoke for Wendy. In prison, on Annie's instructions, Wendy was tortured and died there. She comes back to life with everything she knew from the first time, and she begins working through it step by step. First she wins the trust of old Madam Song, which gives her a footing in the family. Then she brings out the facts of Annie's birth: Annie is the child of an affair between Wendy's father and Wendy's mother's sister. After that she moves to break off her engagement to Sean.
