Destined Paths

Sarah had a newborn daughter, and on the night before the lunar New Year she picked the baby up and ran to her parents' house to get away from a husband who beat her. Her husband's family came after her there. They beat her until she could not get up, and they took the baby away with them. Inside, the house filled up for the new year while Sarah was left outside in the snow. What she said to herself before the bells was that if there was another life she would not go quietly to the slaughter a second time. The bells rang and she lost consciousness. She opened her eyes five years in the past.
