War Contractor

A retired soldier with no money runs a small private security firm out of South Africa, last in a market that has no reason to notice him. On a job at an isolated factory he wakes something called the Mercenary King System, which will hand out equipment, points and personnel only when he completes the contract in front of him. So he takes the contracts. He defends the Kale mine against militia. He goes into the Red Sea operation alongside an assault unit. He escorts scientists across the savanna to a national park, and he fights a winter war in the snow against a sniper called the White Death. He builds a team out of who he can get: Robert, a street kid who never stops talking, Di Maria on the technical side, John out of the British SBS. Each finished job unlocks the next tier of the system, and the firm gets bigger.
