"You saved my life, so become my wife." Clara Kobayashi is an emergency doctor. On a rainy night she treats a man covered in blood, and when he comes round he proposes. He is Hikaru Kurosawa, heir to the Hakuryu clan, and he decides on the spot that she belongs to him. A declaration of possession, then a forced marriage, then threats that are barely hidden. She works under the lights of the emergency room and he works in the clan's dark. The gang war around them brings out Hikaru's past and where his obsession came from, an attachment built out of deprivation, violence and being alone. Every time she resists, his authority and his feeling for her close over it. She is now the one the yakuza are following.
