The Cleaner with a Billion-Dollar Secret

Stella has her assistant put $100 million into the company where her boyfriend James works, and James does not know where it came from. His results have been poor and he is up for review, and the money lifts his numbers enough to get him through. Stella is a janitor at a small company as far as James knows. She is the only daughter of Raymond Mitchell, an oil magnate, and her family is the richest in San Francisco, and she has kept all of that from him. She goes to bring James his lunch and runs into Richard Castro, heir to the richest family in New York. Richard is trying to get out of a marriage his family arranged and is looking for someone to marry on contract, and he takes Stella for the candidate a broker was sending him. She tells him she has a boyfriend. James arrives and breaks up with her on the spot. He has been seeing Samantha and expects her to get him ahead. Stella says she can help him too, and Samantha laughs at the idea of a janitor helping anyone and throws her money and her status in Stella's face. Richard has watched all of it. He stops Stella as she is leaving and makes the offer again, and she takes it. James and Samantha mock the pair of them, and when Richard tells them who he is they do not believe him and keep looking down on the two of them at every occasion. Once Richard's position becomes public, people decide Stella is a nobody who attached herself to him. The Castro family and the people around them press Richard to marry the daughter of San Francisco's richest family instead, and none of them know that is the woman he already married. Stella was burned once by James and keeps her identity to herself. Richard stays with her, and the pressure on him to marry the other heiress does not let up.
