Taming the Ruthless Marshal

Evelyn Quinn is the only daughter of a chamber of commerce president. She has been abroad, and she comes home wanting to work as an architect and pick her own life. In a hotel one night she hides a stranger who has gunmen after him. He is Sebastian Grant, the Young Marshal, heir to the Marshal's command, known for a temper he does not control and for handling regiments rather than people. He decides she will be his, and does not much care what that costs her. What stands in the way is not only him. There is the fiancé who backs out, a younger sister willing to take Evelyn's place, in-laws who work against her, staff officers running their own plots, a rigged trial, a broken engagement, an ambush. The times are unsettled and family money is at stake on several sides at once. Evelyn keeps finding, under the uniform, a man with some sense of fairness in him, and the two of them go through repeated situations where one or both could be killed.
