You Left Us in the Dust, We Rose to the Top

Roy Zink is cheating on his wife, and the person who walks in on it is his daughter Talia, on her birthday. Jane Stone divorces him and leaves the marriage with nothing at all so that Talia stays with her. Talia asks what is going to happen to them now. Jane tells her not to worry, because Jane is the daughter of a rich family. Talia takes that at face value for a while. The furniture in the house is worn out, her mother collects scrap to bring money in, and Roy and the people around him keep picking at the story, so Talia stops knowing what to believe. Two years of it go by, with Jane taking whatever work there is to raise her. Roy turns up with his new wife and a crowd of others to have the lie shown up in front of everyone. The house by then has been redone completely, and Jane's father, the richest man in the country, arrives with her.
