The son is used to doing as he likes. His mother has adopted her for the purpose, and he does not intend to cooperate. When he baits her, she answers with the arts she learned at the temple, and the tricks he plays keep coming back on him. He works out a plan to get her sent away, and it brings real kidnappers to him instead, who take him. She goes after him at real risk to herself and gets him out. He sees that she has been straight with him from the start, and after that the two stop working against each other. They keep bickering, and each comes to rely on the other.
