Bumpkin? Hidden Queen?

Wen Mingwei wants the place in the Wen family that belongs to her, and on the day she is brought back to the house nobody will give it to her. They look at the dirt on her shoes and decide she is a peasant. The girl who has been raised in her place humiliates her in front of guests for not knowing how to behave. Her own brother will not admit in public that she is his sister. What none of them know is who raised her out in the hills. She played go against national champions and studied the qin with the old masters of the instrument. She knows the etiquette of great houses better than the people enforcing it on her. She sits down at a piano on a whim and the musicians present are put out of countenance. She looks at a go board once and beats a champion. She also runs errands for an elderly neighbour named Pei. On the strength of that, Pei Zhenchuan, who holds power in the Pei family, settles on her as the woman his family will marry and puts a family heirloom around her neck himself. The false daughter and the brother start working on ways to have her thrown out of the house. Wen Mingwei smiles at them and slaps one of them across the face, and says it is only the beginning.
