Gofer Van? Legend Dane!

Dane was a basketball prodigy and Van is a teenager the Murphy family has no particular hopes for. Dane is set up, and after he dies he wakes up in Van's body, so there is one player on the court working with another man's hands. The setup left Dane's name on something he did not do, and getting that off it is what Van goes back to playing for. The first time he plays properly he gives himself away. What he can do is older than the body doing it, and the players around him come round far enough to reassemble the Murphy team, which had broken up. The Walker family obstructs him at every stage. Under the league there is fixing and money moving where it should not, part of it running back to the men who arranged Dane's death. Van takes the rebuilt Murphy team to the Planetary Basketball Tournament, where those men will be as well. He and a woman he had been close to earlier come back together.
