The Hero Strikes Back

Hank Shaw comes home after fifteen years away to collect his wife and his mother and move them somewhere better. He has been living under another name all that time, and he has just been made a five-star general of Dracania. His wife tells him his mother died of an illness while he was gone. In fact she has been having an affair with his childhood friend, and the two of them set out to kill his mother to keep her quiet. Hank goes to the cemetery for the funeral. On the way he comes across his mother, who has got away from them, and his subordinate works out what the two have been doing. Hank breaks the coffin open at the cremation before the fire reaches it and finds it empty. His wife and his friend had staged the whole funeral.
