Song Shiwei's mother is in hospital with cancer and the bills are due now. Shiwei goes to Pei Siyan, who has been with her for seven years, and gets down on her knees to ask him for the money. He comes from one of the big Beijing families and is spoken of as its crown prince. For all seven years he has split every bill with her down the middle and has never spent a yuan on her, because he wanted to find out whether she was with him for what he had. Shen Shuyao has been talking to him, and by the time Shiwei is on the floor in front of him he has decided the illness is a story she made up to get at his account.
