She makes perfume now, under a name that is not the one she was born with and behind a face that was rebuilt after a man pulled her out of a grave. Her mother's illness cost more than she could pay, so she married a man who had a grown son and became that son's stepmother. She went into a fire after him and got him out. She gave him a kidney as well, with no name attached to it, and another woman said the kidney had been hers.
