Single Mom Marries a Mother's Boy

Valerie is divorced with a small daughter, Mia, and she marries Arthur Sterling quickly, expecting the marriage to make things steadier for both of them. What she moves into is a house run by Arthur's mother Agatha and his sister Fiona. The two of them work on her and on Mia together. Valerie's things start disappearing and turning up sold. Her money goes the same way. Agatha and Fiona begin arranging for Mia to be handed to traffickers, and they start putting something in Valerie's food meant to leave her dull and manageable. Arthur sees a good deal of this and does what his mother tells him anyway, for a long time. Elsewhere in the house is Nora, another woman brought there against her will, and the two of them start planning around the schedule of the household. Arthur eventually stops going along with it. Valerie gets out with Nora's help and goes to the police with what she can prove.
