Chloe arrives at the Hale estate as Ethan's girlfriend and plays the part of a sweet, grateful guest. Underneath that, she is working with one of Claire's uncles to take over the family's holdings, and at one point she tries to force herself on Claire physically. When that fails, she tells Ethan a different story, casting herself as the victim and Claire as the aggressor. Claire had donated bone marrow to Ethan when they were younger, keeping him alive after an illness. That history counts for nothing once Chloe claims she is pregnant. Ethan believes her without question and starts treating his sister as an outsider in her own house. Grandma sides with Chloe too, giving her run of the household and letting her make demands on the family accounts. Claire spends this stretch quietly building a case. She goes through financial records, tracks meetings between Chloe and the uncle, and brings her fiance Julian Carter in to help confirm what she's found. Together they trace the money and the messages back to the uncle, who has been promising Chloe a cut of the company shares in exchange for helping him push Claire out. When Claire lays out the evidence in front of the family, the pregnancy is exposed as a lie and the uncle's role in the scheme comes out with it. Both are turned over to the authorities. Ethan, realizing how completely he was played and how he treated the sister who once saved his life, gets down on his knees in front of Claire and asks her to forgive him.
