Fly Away Without Goodbye

The Blake family adopted Lyra because of what runs in her blood. She is a dragonblood, and when her brother needed saving she gave her own blood to do it, as often as they asked. It left her weak, permanently, and the family took the arrangement for granted. Mira, a servant's daughter, claimed the credit for keeping the brother alive. The brothers Lyra had bled for turned cold toward her, and years of that finally arrived at her coming-of-age ceremony, where she was humiliated in front of everyone and then thrown out of the house. She was at the lowest point of her life when a black dragon came down out of the sky carrying Lucan, son of the Northern duke, who had been betrothed to her since they were children and whom she had never met. He took her away. The truth about the blood and about Mira comes out afterward, and the Blake brothers have to sit with what they did. By then Lyra has been crowned queen of the dragon people, and whether they still have any claim on her is a question she has already answered.
