An invitation to the Mo family charity banquet went out to Stephanie and her two five-year-olds. It came from Zane, assistant to Lawrence of the Cosmos Group, who had noticed that the twins each had one eye a different colour from the other, the same as his employer. Five years earlier Stephanie had been an attendant at the Imperial View Hotel and spent a night with Lawrence, who had been drugged. She had the twins, Simon and Sylvia, on her own and kept quiet about who their father was. At the banquet Calista, one of the society women there, insulted Stephanie over where she came from, and Lila had the three of them put out over their background. Simon was hurt in the middle of it. Lawrence found Stephanie familiar and left it there. Calista took Stephanie and the children after they left the hotel and mistreated them. Lawrence reached them in time and worked out that Stephanie was the woman from five years before. He wanted the children acknowledged as his. His mother was against it, and so was his fiancée, who had the paternity test run and paid the doctor to write it up as no match. With the report in hand the family turned on Stephanie, and Lawrence tore the report up.
