Claire Stone wants to go on raising her son Owen by herself. Her mother will not let the subject of marriage drop, and after five years of it Claire agrees to meet the man the family lines up for her. The man is Ethan Carter, and they marry within days of meeting. Owen was born after a night Claire spent with Ethan five years earlier, when her boyfriend set her up and she and Ethan ended up together by accident.
