Serena Bellucci spent her first life believing her fiancé Dario and her stepsister Bianca. By the time she understood them they had signed away every claim she had on the Bellucci fortune, and she was put in a black gold warehouse and left there under the dirt. One man came for her while she was still breathing, and it was Lorenzo Moretti, Dario's uncle, the one everybody in both families is careful around. She dies knowing that. Then she opens her eyes on the night of her engagement banquet, with Dario in the next room and Bianca dressing for the party, and none of it done yet. She will not go through with the marriage.
