Rejected, He Reclaimed The Night Empire

Aurora is being crowned High Priestess, and the man standing among the guests is her husband. Leonidas is the Night Lord, and for her sake he has kept his divinity folded away and let the realm treat him as a nobody with a good marriage. What he has actually been doing, night after night without telling her, is burning the impurity out of her energy with his divine flame so that her ascent stays clean. At the ceremony she looks at him in front of everyone and calls him a disgraceful stain on her divinity, and she has him driven out of the realm. He walks out. Somewhere on the way the last of what he felt for her goes out, and with nothing left to protect there is no reason to keep the power banked. It comes back all at once, and the heavens register it. The realm that watched the expulsion now has to reckon with what it expelled, and Aurora has to learn where the flame that purified her had been coming from.
