Four Years Later, She Ruled It All

Yvette Queen is going out with Wendell Lewis, whose family has been sliding for years, and she has been quietly propping the Lewises up with money. She has never told them she is the eldest daughter of the Queen family. Wendell's parents look down on her and want a marriage tie with the wealthy Lane family instead, so they send Wendell abroad to study with Sue Lane. Before he goes he promises Yvette he will marry her when he gets back. Four years later, at his welcome-home party, Wendell announces he is engaged to Sue. Yvette tells her family, and the Queen Group cuts off both the Lanes and the Lewises across the industry. Wendell's mother hears about the boycott and is taken to hospital. Wendell comes back to Yvette asking to patch things up, partly to get the hospital director to treat his mother and partly because he wants her company. Then he finds out who she is.
