Nineteen years ago Jade Jay gave birth to a boy and a girl, and her older brother took them away. She adopted a boy soon after, named him Aiden Jay, raised him as hers, and kept people looking for the two she had lost. Ethan and Emma Shears grew up with a foster father. At nineteen the two of them got into a shouting argument with Aiden. Jade arrived partway through, took Aiden's side without asking what had started it, and spoke to the twins in a way they did not forget. Not long after, Jade took the family out to a restaurant, and Emma was the one waiting their table. It went the same way as before. While it did, Jade saw a heart shaped birthmark on Emma's wrist. She had seen that mark once, on the wrist of the child she delivered. The birth had gone badly and she had come out of it believing she had borne a son, so she carried on looking for a son.
