Where Obedience Ends

A girl with no blood tie to the Su family grew up in their house under their name. Their own daughter, Su Wan, went missing as a small child and was raised elsewhere by people who hurt her, and she came out of it unable to do anything but agree with whatever she is told. The Sus track her down and bring her back. Her parents, her older brother and the girl who has been standing in for her keep her at the bottom of the household, and her compliance is taken as evidence that none of it bothers her. Lu Zhiyan, a doctor who crossed paths with her once when they were children, is the one who steps in when it goes too far, and he does it several times over. In between he teaches her how to refuse and how to take her own side. Su Wan starts answering back, starts fighting the way the family has treated her, and says in public what the Sus are underneath the version of themselves they show.
