Beyond Death, Bound by the Red Veil

Todd Strickland is dead, and his instructions outlive him. His son Trent takes them up and, with Winnie Hammond helping, moves to kill his own mother, Petra Grant. Trent's daughter Hana argues against it and is not listened to. The killing goes ahead in the village where they all live, in a time when such things could be arranged quietly among neighbors. What Trent does not know is that Winnie was Petra's close friend and has been on Petra's side the whole time. Between them they arrange for Petra to come back inside Trent's body. Hana works out what has happened before anyone else does, mostly because her father starts behaving like someone else entirely. Petra, wearing her son, sets about repaying the men who arranged her death, taking them one at a time and using Trent's face and Trent's standing in the village to do it. She also has hours she never expected to get: afternoons with Winnie, and with her granddaughter Hana, who knows exactly who she is talking to.
