Dragon King's Decree

The demon race presses on the borders of the Dragon Clan territory, and the elders have fixed on one answer to hold the line: the crown prince Chu Moshang must marry the Holy Maiden, sealing an alliance meant to bind the clan's strength to hers. Chu Moshang refuses the arrangement. He argues that power tied to a marriage contract is not power at all, and he would rather face the demons alone than depend on a wife chosen for him by treaty. Feng Zhilou grows up on the far edge of that same world, an illegitimate daughter in a household that treats her as an embarrassment. Servants and half-siblings mock her openly, and no one expects anything from her. She keeps a private ambition anyway, to stand one day in battle beside the Dragon Clan, the very clan whose politics are deciding Chu Moshang's future without asking him. The two meet, and neither fits the role assigned to them. Zhilou has no rank and no dowry to offer any alliance, and Moshang has no interest in the bride the elders picked. Their meetings turn into arguments, the arguments into something neither of them planned for, and slowly the two of them start training and fighting together, ignoring the objections raised at court and at home. Zhilou's status keeps causing trouble, family and clan alike treating her presence near the crown prince as an overreach, and Moshang keeps setting aside the pressure to formalize the union with the Holy Maiden. Through the demon incursions and the disputes inside the Dragon Clan, the pair keep testing whether skill and loyalty earned in the field can outweigh birth and old agreements, each fight changing a little of what the clan is willing to accept from either of them.
