The Birch Bow Hunter

Chen Yuanshan's cousin runs the hunting team in Beiling, and at every share-out he hands Chen Yuanshan a few scraps of meat as his share. Chen Yuanshan leaves the team, takes the birchwood bow his family passed down, and goes into the mountains on his own to make a living. His wife stays with him through the poverty. His shooting brings in pelts, and the Supply and Marketing Cooperative gives him a standing contract to supply them. Hunting partners he can rely on gather around him, and he begins planning a school for the village. The cousin works against him in secret at each step, and Chen Yuanshan undoes what the cousin sets up. Later he is chosen to be the protection officer for the forest district.
