The Hundredth Oath

In the Kingdom of Avaloria the old king is dead and the throne has passed to the young Queen Freya. Loki, a god, gives up his divinity to protect the kingdom. By the late king's last will he swears to help Freya rule and to forgive her a hundred times, and Freya swears in turn that she will never betray him. Loki wins back the kingdom's lands. After that Surt begins to work on the queen. Under his influence Freya strips Loki of his authority, his command of the army and his dignity, and Loki forgives her each time, as he swore he would. On the hundredth betrayal the pact is complete. Loki gives up what is left of his rank, hands Freya the annulment of their betrothal, and decides to leave the royal court.
