Morgan's father uploaded himself into the server that the world is actually running on, and became the System. Morgan, who works as a hacker, finds out what happened to him. Getting him back out involves rolling something called the Infinite Die, and the roll sets off the digital scourge worldwide. Reality starts collapsing into nightmare. Andy finishes college and cannot find work. During the collapse he is taken off the street by Lin, an heiress in a bad way, and made to stand in for her dead father. The two of them run, and somewhere along the route they come across Jessica, who reads tarot and says what she thinks about men. On the other side of the planet a butler named Pei who fights in the street and a parkour streamer named Ali are up against androids sent by a corporation and mutants that have been stitched together. The world keeps breaking down around all of them, and the group that assembles out of it has to work with what each of them brought: chaotic energy, tarot, empathy through frequency, and combos out of old arcade games.
