James Ward is the richest man in America. Eva Grant wants into that class of people and stages an assassination attempt on James so she can save him from it, taking a real knife wound for the performance, with her mother helping her plan it. It works. She becomes his fiancee. Camille flies in for the beach wedding to surprise her father. Eva has no idea who she is, decides she is a mistress, and sets about humiliating her, the same treatment she and her clique gave Camille years earlier at a high school summer camp. Then Eva's friends start turning on one another and the details come out: the affair and the pregnancy with Bob, who belongs to one of them, Kelly's scheming, and the fact that Eva's mother has been using her daughter as a way up.
