When Suns Burn: Rise of the Chosen

Two suns burn in the sky over what used to be an ordinary city, the result of a solar split that turned the world into an apocalypse. Caleb Litt walks back into this world after millennia spent cultivating in a celestial realm, though only seven years have passed on earth since he left it for dead. He has become a divine being, strong enough to cross the length of the universe to get here. He grew up in an orphanage before the Zanes adopted him to carry on the family line. Once inside the household he spent his days nursing their comatose son, Jim Zane, until Jim woke up. With Jim conscious again, Caleb had no further use to the family, and Grace Zane and her son had him killed and left in the forest. He fell instead into an ancient transport array that carried him off the planet. Grace and Jim have not stayed idle in the seven years since. The solar catastrophe gave rise to people with special powers, and the two of them are among them now, using the abilities to push around the ordinary people left in the ruined city. Caleb comes back carrying both the old debt and whatever the end of the world still owes him, and he starts looking for a way to save the people being crushed under the Zanes while settling the matter of his own murder.
