Hannah Shaw was raised by the master of the Celestial Healers and was in line to become the sect's 56th successor. The Shaw family had lost her years before. When they found her again she gave up the succession and went back to them. Her parents' attention was on Winona, the girl they had adopted while Hannah was gone. Winona had a system that copied out any prescription Hannah wrote, so the medicine Hannah worked out reached people under Winona's name. Hannah was blamed for things she had not done and the household came to hold her in contempt. Then a plague started. Winona took the cure Hannah had prepared and told people Hannah had betrayed them.
