Oath of Rebirth, Debt of Blood

Kelly Jay and Jodie Jay have the same father. Kelly is a consort by then, out of favour and shut in the cold palace, while Jodie holds a first-rank title through her husband's office. At a banquet in the palace, Kelly kills her. The two of them come back to the day before either marriage, when the Knox family sends over its proposal. Kelly takes the letter and will have nobody but Frank Knox, who in the life they have already lived became Prime Minister. That leaves the other opening, the palace selection for imperial consorts, to Jodie, and Kelly hands it over as though she were giving something up.
