If This Be Love, I Let It Go

Fu Jingnian and his elder twin brother Fu Yan'an go to the front together. Fu Yan'an dies there shielding his brother. His last request is that Fu Jingnian take his place beside his widow and give her a child before going back to his own wife. Fu Jingnian returns home under his brother's name and looks after the widow. His wife, Song Shiwei, is told none of this. Song Shiwei swears that she will stay a widow for the rest of her life. Her family and the people around her humiliate her and call her a jinx. She is taken to a brothel, where the owner tries to sell her, and she is hung up and tortured there for seven days and nights without breaking her vow. Fu Jingnian, still passing as his brother, takes her out of the brothel and brings her to the manor. A man she does not know begins to watch her from a distance. Fu Jingnian believes that the whole arrangement is hidden, and then Song Shiwei comes across the truth by chance.
