Nina can see through solid objects and read what is hidden inside them. The ability came from a jade pendant passed down in her family, and it woke at a low point: her father was seriously ill, she needed money for his treatment, and her attempts to find work had come to nothing. She uses the sight for money first. She chooses a winning lottery ticket, digs up gold, makes a large sum on the stock market, spots undervalued pieces in the antiques trade and wins at betting on uncut jade stones. Along the way she saves Wade, chairman of the Yates Group, and he comes to trust her. On the back of that she moves into business, and in one field after another she uses the same sight to get the better of her competitors and builds up a business empire of her own.
