Second Life, the Godfather's Wife

At the ceremony where the Moretti family names its new head, Eleanor's fiancé Lucian kills the man being appointed, and Eleanor's sister Vivian, out of jealousy, kills Eleanor. Eleanor gets a second life that begins ten years earlier, on the day the sisters chose their fiancés. This time she wants an ordinary life. Against her family's wishes she marries Alessio Moretti, a man everyone takes for a beggar. Vivian sneers at the match and marries Lucian. The beggar is the head of the Moretti family, the Godfather, and he keeps that hidden. The marriage sets off a fight over power and a run of betrayals among the Winchester, Whitmore and Moretti families. Eleanor faces attempts to discredit her and to take over her identity, most of them traced to Vivian and Lucian. The old Duke's inheritance is in play as well. The three families meet at banquets, and much of the rivalry is worked out there.
