The Emperor I Kept as a Lover

Jane Foster lost her husband young and raised two sons by herself, and she has been a widow for half her life. With the boys grown she goes to stay at a country estate, meaning to rest and be left alone. Emperor Collin White is there, and he notices her. She is older now but has kept the poise and the looks that people used to turn around for, and the loneliness she has carried since her husband died has never quite left her. Collin finds he cannot talk himself out of it. He decides he will have her, on whatever terms she will accept, and if the arrangement makes him the kept man in it, he will take that too. Two grown sons and the distance between a widow and an emperor stand in the way of any of it being simple.
