Captive of Your Love

A student abroad whose family has collapsed can be kept, the way a canary is kept, by a man who pays for everything and expects her to stay in the cage. When she tries to leave he trims her wings a little and she comes back on her own. Kurt Thompson has kept a student this way in Western Europe for three years. Sally Matthews is the student. Her family fell apart while she was overseas, and since then she has lived as Kurt's kept woman. Her course finishes, she is due to go home, and she breaks it off with him without hesitation. That night Kurt, who has always been calm and restrained, loses control for the first time. He assumes it will go the way it went before, that once her wings are clipped she will return to him. This time Sally goes off to a life of her own choosing, and Kurt is the one who stays behind, held in place by his need for her.
