Shadow of the Past

Penny Zook lives with the Adams family, who look after her. Her mind has not worked properly since a trip on which she and Stellan Adams were attacked by men dressed in black. Stellan was killed, and Penny came out of it with a brain injury that left her intellect impaired, which is how she came to be in the Adams house. She has been growing close to Leon Adams, Stellan's twin brother. Sherry James is meant to marry Leon, and the arrangements with the family are already under way. Sherry is jealous of what is going on between Leon and Penny, and she gets in touch with the men in black and has them go after Penny again, more than once. The Adams family is heading toward a serious conflict. Then there is an accident, and pieces of Penny's memory start to come back, among them details from the attack that bear on who was behind it.
