The Road to the Sky

The County Administration Office opens one position, and the civil service exam fills it by rank, so everyone sitting it is competing for the same single vacancy. Cody Brooks sat it once already, in a life he has now left behind. He assembled all the study materials for his girlfriend and gave up sitting the essay paper himself so that she would place first. She did, and she got the job. Then she found a man with better connections and ended things with Cody. He asked her not to go and she humiliated him for it. He lives it again from before the exam. He ends the relationship straight away, sits the exam on his own account, passes, takes the position, and starts recovering what he had signed over.
